Aspendos in Pamphylia had a long tradition of issuing its own coinage before coming under Seleucid control, and the city retained enough local prestige that the Seleucids permitted — or found it politically expedient to allow — coins struck in Alexander's name to continue emanating from its mint well into the second century BC.
