By 280–275 BC, Alexander had been dead for over four decades, yet his name and types continued to be struck across the former empire as a trusted international currency. Amphipolis, Macedonia's primary silver-producing mint, drew on the nearby Pangaion mines and remained one of the most prolific sources of posthumous Alexanders well into the third century. Price 606 is distinguished by specific control marks that allow attribution to this narrow period — without them, the coin would be nearly impossible to separate from the broader posthumous mass.
