Obverse description Facing right, the youthful head of Heracles is rendered in high relief in the Lysippan tradition, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion whose gaping jaws frame the hero's crown. The lion's forelegs are knotted at the throat, their paws visible before the neck. The modeling of the facial features — strong brow, aquiline nose, and slightly parted lips — displays the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of the Amphipolis mint.
