Obverse description Head of Herakles in right-facing profile, portrayed with youthful idealized features in the Lysippan tradition, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's gaping maw covering the crown of the head and the knotted forelegs draped at the neck. The deeply modeled musculature of the hero's face, curling locks escaping from beneath the pelt, and the bold high-relief rendering are characteristic of the refined Amphipolis mint style. The flan shows a fine beaded border along the rim.
