Obverse description Right-facing youthful head of Herakles in three-quarter view, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress, the scalp tied beneath the chin with the forepaws knotted at the neck. The facial features are rendered in fine Classical style with a strong jaw and idealized profile. The lion's mane frames the hero's face in bold, deeply-struck relief. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of hammered coinage of this period.
