Chios was among the Greek island mints that continued striking Alexander-type tetradrachms well into the second century BC, long after the Macedonian kingdom itself had fragmented. These posthumous issues were not nostalgic — they were pragmatic. The Alexander tetradrachm had become the dominant trade currency of the eastern Mediterranean, and any mint wanting its silver accepted without friction simply kept to the established type.
The Bauslaugh corpus, published in 1990, remains the definitive die study for this posthumous series and places the Chian issues within a tightly sequenced chronology based on magistrate names and control marks.
