Obverse description Head of Heracles facing right, wearing the scalp of the Nemean lion as a headdress, the lion's mane and paws draped over the neck and shoulder. The facial features are rendered with fine Hellenistic artistry, displaying curling hair at the temple and a strong, idealized profile. The field is plain and the coin is bordered by a beaded (dotted) circle near the rim. This portrait type, widely used on Alexandrine tetradrachms, alludes to the divine ancestry and heroic character of Alexander the Great.
