Mytilene's posthumous Alexander tetradrachms were struck well after the city had passed through successive Macedonian, Antigonid, and Seleucid spheres of influence — the coinage functioning as a practical commercial instrument across Aegean trade networks rather than any declaration of political allegiance. Price 1678 places this issue among the later posthumous groups, a period when dozens of mints from Macedonia to the Levant were producing Alexander-type coinage simultaneously, making die linkage studies the primary tool for establishing mint attribution with confidence.
