Price 1 is among the most debated attributions in the entire posthumous Alexander series — catalogued by Martin Price in his 1991 corpus but left without firm mint attribution precisely because the controlling dies share characteristics with multiple Macedonian and Aegean workshops active in the immediate aftermath of Alexander's death in 323 BC. The proliferation of these issues was driven not by civic pride but by military payroll: the Diadochi needed massive quantities of coin to pay mercenaries, and any city with access to silver and a competent engraver could — and did — strike in Alexander's name.
