Price 817 places this issue among the posthumous Alexander tetradrachms struck at Amphipolis, the most productive mint of the successor period. After Alexander's death in 323 BC, his image and coin types were retained across dozens of mints for decades — partly for trade continuity, partly because no successor wanted to be seen diminishing the conqueror's currency. Amphipolis, controlling access to Macedonian silver from the Pangaion mines, remained central to that output under Cassander and his immediate successors.
