| Beschrijving voorzijde | Highly stylized and abstracted effigy of Zeus in left profile, derived from the Macedonian prototype of Philip II tetradrachms. The laureate head is rendered in a distinctly Celtic-Dacian artistic idiom, with the facial features — eye, nose, and chin — reduced to bold, schematic relief forms. The laurel wreath is suggested by a sweeping curved mass behind the head rather than individual leaves. The flan is irregular, and the die is slightly off-center, characteristic of barbarous imitative coinage of this series. |

The rider's body is highly schematized, with exaggerated limbs and a rounded, bulbous torso, seated upon a horse whose anatomy is similarly distorted into bold, curvilinear forms. A border of large globules frames the design, replacing the original linear groundline and legend. Subsidiary symbols appear in the field, including abstract linear motifs below the horse, reflecting the progressive barbarization of the Macedonian prototype across successive generations of Celtic-Dacian coinage. |

The Dacian and Celtic tribes of the Carpathian-Danubian zone began copying Macedonian tetradrachms almost immediately after Philip II's coinage flooded the region through mercenary payments and trade — then kept copying the copies, generation after generation, with each successive die cutter working from a degraded prototype rather than the original. The Moldavian group represents one of the more geographically peripheral branches of this imitative tradition, progressively abstracting the prototype over roughly a century of reproduction.
Göbl's classification places this specific variety at a considerable remove from the archetype. The weight reduction to the mid-7g range reflects neither accident nor debasement policy but the simple drift of local metrology away from the Macedonian Attic standard.
