| Reverse description | Deep incuse square divided by a raised cross into four recessed rectangular compartments, each filled with fine parallel vertical striations creating a textured, mill-sail or quadripartite pattern typical of early Chian coinage. The magistrate's name ΗΡΑΓΟΡΗΣ is inscribed horizontally in bold Greek letters across the central horizontal bar of the cross, identifying the issuing authority. The incuse technique reflects the archaic die-cutting tradition inherited from earlier Chian tetradrachms. |
