| Obverse description | Facing lion scalp rendered in high relief, depicted full-face with prominent flowing mane radiating symmetrically around the visage. The broad, flat muzzle is rendered with deeply incised nostrils and a central facial groove, characteristic of the Samian artistic tradition. The mane is elaborately detailed with fine radiating striations, filling the flan to its irregular edges. No legend or inscription appears in the field. The overall style reflects the bold, archaic-influenced engraving technique prevalent in Aegean coinage of the early fourth century BC. |
