She wears a delicate pendant necklace and a strand of pearls at her throat. The legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ encircles the field, and four dolphins swim counterclockwise around the periphery, emblematic of the maritime identity of Syracuse. The style reflects the transitional phase between the archaic and early classical periods of Sicilian die-cutting. |
