| Obverse description | Facing right, the helmeted head of Athena Parthenos rendered in the late New Style manner, her Attic helmet elaborately decorated with a palmette above the visor, a prominent fore-part of a horse on the bowl, and a coiled serpent at the nape. The hair falls in undulating locks beneath the helmet rim, and the goddess's finely modelled facial features display the idealized Hellenistic canon. No legend appears in the field, the entire design filling the flan with characteristic Athenian New Style artistry. |
