Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletianus facing right, with drapery visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the late Roman provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachms, with coarse but expressive workmanship. A circular Greek legend surrounds the portrait, reading the imperial titulature. The flan is irregularly shaped, a common feature of late third-century Alexandrian coinage, and the surface shows patination consistent with a billon or silver-washed copper fabric.
