Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Diocletian facing right, rendered in the provincial Egyptian style characteristic of late third-century Alexandrian tetradrachms. The emperor's portrait displays a radiate crown of laurel and segmented cuirass, with facial features reflecting the robust military character typical of the Tetrarchic period. The obverse legend in Greek characters encircles the bust, reading ΔIOKΛHTIANOC CEB, identifying the emperor by his title Sebastos (Augustus). The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with the hammered billon coinage of the Alexandrian mint.
