Obverse description Nike personified in three-quarter frontal view alights upon the prow of a warship (aphlaston) facing left, her wings spread dramatically behind her. She raises a long trumpet (salpinx) to her lips with her right hand and grasps a stylis (steering oar) in her left. The figure is rendered in dynamic Hellenistic style, conveying motion and divine victory, with drapery flowing against the wind. The galley prow, adorned with an apotropaic eye, occupies the lower register of the field.
