Struck at Salamis in Cyprus following Demetrius Poliorcetes' decisive naval victory over Ptolemy I at the Battle of Salamis in 306 BC, this issue commemorates the engagement that briefly made Demetrius master of the eastern Mediterranean. The victory was significant enough that Antigonus I and Demetrius both assumed the royal title in its aftermath — one of the few cases where a single sea battle directly precipitated a dynastic proclamation.
The Salamis mint operated under tight Antigonid control during this window, and production wound down as Ptolemaic pressure on Cyprus intensified ahead of the eventual Ptolemaic reconquest of the island around 294 BC.
