| Descrizione del rovescio | Poseidon, lightly draped across the lower body, seated left upon a rocky outcrop, depicted in a commanding semi-reclining posture. In his extended right hand he holds an aphlaston (the ornamental stern-piece of a warship), referencing Demetrius's celebrated naval victories, while his left arm rests upon a long trident planted vertically beside him. The royal legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ runs in the field around the deity, and a secondary control mark in the form of the letter M (mu) appears to the inner left field. The composition reflects the refined artistic conventions of early Hellenistic die-cutting. |
