| Obverse description | Nike, winged and draped, stands left upon the prow of a warship (aphlaston visible at stern), blowing a long war trumpet (salpinx) held in her right hand while her left hand grasps a stylis (steering oar). The figure is rendered in the dynamic Hellenistic style associated with the workshop of Demetrius I, conveying a sense of movement and martial triumph. The galley prow projects to the left beneath her feet, rendered in fine relief detail. No legend appears on the obverse field. |

| Additional information |
Demetrius I earned the epithet "Poliorcetes" — the Besieger — for his siege warfare, most famously his failed two-year assault on Rhodes ending in 304 BC. By the time this coin was struck at Pella, he had seized the Macedonian throne from Antipater's son Alexander V, whom he murdered at a banquet in 294 BC. His reign lasted barely three years before his own army defected to Pyrrhus and Lysimachus.
Newell 74 places this issue firmly in the Pella mint sequence during the penultimate year of his rule.
