| Obverse description | Youthful diademed head of Demetrius I Poliorcetes facing right, adorned with a small bull's horn rising from the diadem above the forehead, a divine attribute associating the king with Poseidon. The hair is rendered in fine, naturalistically carved locks swept back from the face, with a loose strand falling behind the neck. The portrait displays the refined Hellenistic royal style, with strong facial modeling and an idealized, youthful profile. The border consists of a raised bead-and-reel pattern encircling the flan. |

| Reverse description | Poseidon Pelagaios seated left upon a rocky outcrop, his nude muscular figure depicted in a dignified resting pose. In his extended right hand he holds an aphlaston (the curved ornament from a ship's stern), and in his left hand he grasps a long trident, symbol of his dominion over the sea. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ runs in two lines in the fields, identifying the issuing king. Monograms appear to the inner left and right of the figure, serving as mint control marks. |
