Obverse description Diademed and horned head of Demetrius I Poliorcetes facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic high relief, the diadem tied with flowing ends behind the elaborately detailed wavy hair. A small bull's horn, emblematic of divine or heroic aspiration, rises above the forehead, alluding to the king's claimed divine status. The portrait is executed with vigorous naturalism characteristic of the finest Macedonian die-cutting of the early third century BC. The entire design is framed by a neat border of dots.
