Obverse description Facing the obverse, the iconic Ephesian bee is depicted in high relief at center, shown from above with wings outstretched laterally and a finely segmented abdomen rendered in careful detail. The bee's rounded thorax and large compound eyes are prominently modeled, with delicate leg segments visible to either side of the body. To the left of the bee appears the abbreviated ethnic legend E (epsilon), and to the right a small floral or stellate symbol, likely a rose or eight-pointed device serving as a magistrate's control mark. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border, characteristic of Ephesian silver coinage of this period.
