Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, depicted with short hair and a draped shoulder, rendered in the Hellenistic portrait tradition favoured by eastern provincial mints. The effigy shows strong, naturalistic facial features characteristic of Julio-Claudian imperial portraiture. The encircling Greek legend reads ΤΙΒΕΡΙΟΥ ΚΛΑΥΔΙΟΥ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ ΓΕΡΜΑΝΙΚΟΥ, identifying the emperor as Tiberius Claudius Augustus Germanicus, disposed around the periphery of the flan.
