Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Carus facing right, depicted with short beard, set within a beaded border. The imperial effigy is rendered in the late Roman provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachms. A Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field, identifying the emperor by name and title. The flan is irregular and the surfaces show typical late third-century Alexandrian fabric with relatively low silver content.
