The Afrighid dynasty ruled Choresmia — the lower Oxus basin — as a persistent local power that outlasted Sasanian collapse and resisted early Arab expansion longer than most Central Asian polities. This tetradrachm belongs to the Bravik series, a classificatory group established by B.I. Vainberg based on her foundational typological work on Chorasmian coinage, the essential reference for any serious study of this material. Vainberg's Γ II designation places this piece within a mid-seventh-century sequence produced as Sasanian influence disintegrated and Arab armies were pressing through Khorasan.
