Obverse description A serpent emerges to the left from a partially open cista mystica, the sacred basket of the Dionysiac mysteries, set in the central field. The entire design is encircled by a dense ivy wreath, a hallmark of the cistophoric series, rendered with careful attention to leaf and berry detail characteristic of the Phrygian mint tradition.
