| Obverse description | Sphinx seated in left profile upon a rocky ground line, rendered in fine archaic style with detailed feathering across the wings and body. The creature displays a human female head facing left with carefully delineated hair, a leonine haunched body, and prominent raised wings curling over the back. The musculature of the forelegs and haunches is boldly modelled in high relief. The design occupies the entire flan within an oval incuse field, characteristic of early Chian coinage. No legend appears on this side. |

| Reverse description | Deep incuse square divided into four quadrants by a raised cross, with each quadrant filled with fine vertical striations imitating a millgrain or textured surface pattern, consistent with the archaic Chian reverse type. The magistrate's name AΘHNAΓOPHΣ is inscribed horizontally in clear Greek majuscule letters across the central horizontal bar of the incuse cross, identifying the issuing magistrate Athenagores. The overall design is sharply struck within an oval flan with a plain surrounding field. |
