Reverse description A full silphium plant, the celebrated and economically vital export of Cyrene, depicted frontally and centrally in the field. The plant rises from a rectangular base or root bulb at the bottom, its thick stalk bearing multiple spreading lateral branches with heart-shaped seed pods, and terminating at the summit in a large, elaborately rendered umbellate flower head with curling fronds. The composition conveys both botanical fidelity and decorative grandeur. The ethnic legend ΚΥΡΑΝΑ, or in some specimens retrograde ΚΥΡΑ, appears in the field flanking the plant, with individual letters visible to the right of the stalk.
