正面描述 Laureate head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with idealized youthful features. The god's long hair is elaborately braided and bound with a laurel wreath, with locks falling in tightly rolled ringlets behind the neck. The portrait is executed with high relief and skilled modeling of the facial planes, characteristic of late Hellenistic civic coinage from the Troad region. The field is plain, with no inscriptions on the obverse.

附加信息

Alexandreia Troas issued this tetradrachm under the magistrate Archagoros during the city's long autonomous coinage period, which ran through the turbulent final decades before Pompey's reorganization of the eastern provinces in 64 BC. These civic issues, struck to the reduced Attic standard that had become conventional across much of Asia Minor by the late second century, funded a city that still enjoyed nominal independence even as Rome's grip on the region tightened after the bequest of Pergamon in 133 BC. Bellinger's Troy series remains the definitive reference, catalogued during his 1961 study of the Troas mint sequence.
