| Reverse description | A hare depicted in full sprint to the right, its body elongated and limbs extended in a flying gallop, conveying dynamic motion with considerable artistic skill. The retrograde ethnic legend ΡΗΓΙΝΟΝ (read right to left) is disposed around the field, partially encircling the animal. The whole is set within a plain dotted border. The hare served as the personal badge of the tyrant Anaxilas, who is said to have introduced the animal to Sicily, and its prominence on these coins is a deliberate dynastic symbol. |
