Obverse description Celticized head of Herakles facing right, wearing the lion skin headdress with the scalp rendered in bold, schematized relief characteristic of Eastern Celtic imitative coinage. The mane and facial features of the lion skin are rendered with vigorous, stylized strokes departing from the refined Hellenistic prototype. The portrait displays the broader, more abstracted treatment of anatomy typical of Celtic die-cutters, with the ear and neck of the hero visible beneath the pelt. The field is plain and unlettered, consistent with the broader Celtic Alexander imitative series. The flan is irregular, a common trait of hand-struck Celtic issues.
