Price 3139 places this tetradrachm among the Salamis mint issues struck during Alexander's lifetime — a mint on Cyprus activated as part of the broader logistical machinery supporting his eastern campaigns. Cyprus had been brought under Macedonian control after the siege of Tyre in 332 BC, and its existing mint infrastructure was promptly put to work funding the army's advance. The island's silver output was never large relative to Amphipolis or Babylon, making lifetime issues from Salamis considerably scarcer than the posthumous flood that followed Alexander's death in 323.
