Obverse description Youthful beardless head of Heracles facing right, identifiable by the Nemean lion-skin headdress whose scalp covers the crown of the head and whose paws are knotted at the throat. The rendering is executed in fine Hellenistic style, with naturalistic facial features, a slightly open mouth, and flowing sculptural volumes characteristic of the Amphipolis mint. The dotted border encircles the design, and the lion's mane is rendered in detailed parallel striations falling behind the neck.
