The hero is clad in the scalp of the Nemean lion, rendered in high relief with the pelt's mane falling naturalistically over the neck and shoulder, its open jaws forming a distinctive headdress above the brow. The modeling of the face is of fine Hellenistic workmanship, with carefully detailed ear, sensitively rendered lips, and a strong profile characteristic of the Amphipolis mint style.
