| Obverse description | Youthful bare head of Heracles in three-quarter right profile, beardless, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress, the scalp drawn over the crown with the forelegs knotted at the throat; the finely rendered curling hair escapes from beneath the pelt at the nape, and the bold, slightly idealized facial features reflect the high artistic standard of the Amphipolis mint. The dotted border is visible along the coin's edge. No legend appears on the obverse. |

| Reverse description | Zeus Aetophoros enthroned left on a low backless throne, his body draped from the waist, holding an eagle perched on his extended right hand and a long sceptre upright in his left; in the left field, a quiver as a mint control symbol. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field, identifying the coin as an issue of Alexander. The composition is monumental and restrained, characteristic of the early Amphipolis tetradrachm coinage struck during Alexander's lifetime. |
