Reverse description Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left upon a low backless throne, his nude torso rendered in Hellenistic style with a himation draped across the lower body and legs. His outstretched right hand supports an eagle with closed wings, while his left hand grasps a tall lotus-tipped sceptre. A round Macedonian shield appears as a symbol in the left field. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field, and the mint and control marks characteristic of the Amphipolis issue appear in the fields.
