| Obverse description | Draped bust of Persephone (or Arethusa) facing left, wearing a stephane of wheat ears and a pearl necklace; the hair is elaborately arranged with loose locks falling over the neck. Three dolphins swim around the portrait in the field, a standard Syracusan decorative motif. A monogram or control mark (ΝΙ) appears below the neck truncation. The finely engraved portrait reflects the high artistic tradition of late Classical Syracusan coinage. |

The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ is inscribed along the lower border, with the control letters ΑΙ positioned in the exergue or lower field. The entire composition is enclosed within a dotted border. |
