Below the club, Nike advances to the left, her figure in motion with both arms raised holding an open wreath aloft. The goddess is flanked on either side by monograms identifying magistrates or civic officials. The entire composition is encircled by a thick oak wreath, a hallmark of the stephanephoric coinage series produced by cities of western Asia Minor in the second century BC. The ethnic inscription HPAKΛEΩTΩN appears within the wreath, identifying the issuing civic authority. |
