The ethnic legend ΜΕΝΔΑΙΟΝ is distributed across the four sides of the inner linear square as MEN-Δ-A-IO-N, identifying the issuing city. The incuse square technique is consistent with archaic Macedonian and northern Aegean minting practice of the fifth century BC. |
