| Obverse description | Quadriga driven at a trot to right by a charioteer clad in a long chiton, holding the reins in both hands; Nike flies left above the group, extending a wreath to crown the charioteer. The exergue below is divided by a groundline and contains a ketos (sea-monster) swimming to right, rendered in fine archaic style. The composition reflects the early Classical Syracusan idiom associated with the period of the Deinomenid tyrants. |
