Obverse description Biga drawn by two mules driven to the left by the nymph Messana, rendered in fine relief with flowing drapery; above the group, Nike flies right to crown the charioteer with a wreath. In the exergue, two dolphins are depicted snout to snout, a characteristic civic emblem referencing the city's maritime identity. The composition displays the high artistic quality associated with the Sicilian engraving tradition of the late fifth century BC.
