| Reverse description | Owl of Athena standing in right profile with head turned to face the viewer, rendered with bold, stylized plumage. In the upper left field, an olive sprig with berries and a crescent moon are depicted. The ethnic inscription AΘE appears vertically before the owl in Greek characters, abbreviating Athenaiōn, meaning 'of the Athenians.' The entire design is set within a shallow incuse square, a characteristic feature of Classical Athenian tetradrachms. The composition is strikingly spare, the devices occupying a carefully balanced field. |
