Obverse description Facing head of Helios, the sun god, rendered in three-quarter view turned slightly to the right, with wavy radiating hair fanning outward around the face in the characteristic Rhodian artistic style. The facial features are rendered with considerable sculptural depth, displaying large almond-shaped eyes, a prominent straight nose, and full lips. The hair is depicted in flowing, carefully engraved wavy locks that spread across the field, evoking the solar rays of the deity. No legend appears on the obverse, the design filling the flan with bold, high-relief portraiture typical of the Chian-Rhodian coinage of the early fourth century BC.
