背面描述 A goat standing to the left in profile, rendered in fine high relief, its head turned back to the right with mouth open and a sprig or vine branch visible before its muzzle. The animal is depicted with careful anatomical detail, its muscular body, cloven hooves, and curved horns clearly articulated. In the lower right field, a small kantharos (wine cup) is shown as a subsidiary symbol. The ethnic legend AINION is inscribed in Greek characters across the upper field, identifying the issuing city of Ainos.

附加信息

Ainos sat at the mouth of the Hebros River on the Thracian coast, and its mint was active precisely because the city controlled that trade corridor — grain, timber, and slaves moving through made it wealthy enough to strike high-quality silver in quantity. The tetradrachms of this narrow four-year window fall within the period of Athenian intervention in Thrace, when Iphikrates and later Timotheos were campaigning in the region, placing Ainos directly within a contested zone between Athenian imperial ambitions and the expanding reach of the Odrysian kingdom.

May's die study distinguished #422 from #423 primarily through obverse die linkage rather than visible typological difference — a distinction invisible without direct comparison against documented specimens.
