To the right of the tripod, a dolphin swims upward, serving as a symbol in the field. The ethnic legend ΦΙΛΙΠΠΩΝ is inscribed vertically along the left field in archaic Greek characters. The composition is characteristic of the early coinage of Philippi, celebrating the city's Apolline and Dionysiac religious associations. |
