Reverse description A tripod-lebes depicted frontally at centre, its cauldron surmounted by a laurel branch and hung with two festoons of beaded ornament draped from the handles; the tripod legs rest on a raised base decorated with a wheel or circular motif. To the right of the tripod, a dolphin swims upward, serving as a symbol in the field. The ethnic legend ΦΙΛΙΠΠΩΝ is inscribed vertically along the left field in archaic Greek characters. The composition is characteristic of the early coinage of Philippi, celebrating the city's Apolline and Dionysiac religious associations.
