| Obverse description | Facing head of Hermes rendered in fine classical style, turned very slightly to the left, with wavy locks of hair framing the face on either side. The god wears a broad-brimmed petasos secured by a band across the forehead, its dome rising prominently above. The modelling of the facial features — almond-shaped eyes, straight nose, and slightly parted lips — displays the accomplished die-cutting characteristic of Thracian mint work of the early fourth century BC. The field is unlettered, the design filling the flan to its irregular edges. |
