| Obverse description | Facing right, the bearded head of Dionysos rendered in high relief in the archaic style, his luxuriant curling beard and flowing locks depicted with fine engraving. The god wears a wreath of ivy and grape clusters crowning his head, emblematic of his divine association with viticulture. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, characteristic of hand-struck Thasian coinage of the early Classical period. The portrait occupies the full field with no legend or border, conveying a powerful, frontal presence typical of Thasian artistic convention. |
